Police Arrest Man for Causing Death of 2-Year-Old Girl

PURSAT: The Child Protection Unit (CPU), in cooperation with the Pursat Police Command, are investigating the suspicious death of a two year old girl that occurred on 26 March 2022.

The child had received an injury to the head/neck region and as a result, died from the injury. The CPU Forensic Team and Homicide Team, together with the Ministry of Interior and Pursat Police Command, are investigating the circumstances of the injury and her death.

As a result of investigations, a 56 year old man from Pursat has been arrested and charged with Acts of Violence Causing Death, under Article 224 of the Cambodian Criminal Code.

The suspect who was identified as the father of the child has been remanded into pre-trial detention by the Pursat Court of First Instance.

"The injury sustained by this little two year old caused her death. Domestic violence in any form is unacceptable, even more so when committed against defenseless children," said the Director of Operations of the CPU, James McCabe.
